Ordnance Cable Factory Chandigarh is governed by Ordnance Factory Board, Kolkata. Set up in 1963, the aim of the company is to offer excellent services to the Defence Forces of India. OCFC was established in collaboration with SUMITOMO, Japan to produce Field Telephone Cable JWD- 1, Carrier Quad Cable and Spring Steel Wires in initial years. Now the company produces wide range of high quality cables and wires. With a comprehensive and goal oriented approach, the company has technological excellence and expertise to manufacture various types of cables. The company has also been involved in manufacturing spring steel and mild steel for various purposes.

Ordnance Cable Factory has diversified its activities and now supplies its products to Department of Telecommunications, Indian Railways, Public Sector Undertakings and State Electricity Boards and other private sectors. The chief products of the company are Carrier Quad Cable, Co- Axial Cable, Air Field Lightning Spares, Jelly Filled Cables, Cable JWD- 1, Day Vision Devices and Cable Assemblies.

The factory is spread over a large area and provides housing, hospitals, schools and other facilities for the workers and their dependents.

Indian Ordnance Factories Services are one of the civil services in India. IOFS cadre includes technical and non technical posts. Technical posts include Engineers and technologists.  While non technical posts are for Science, Law, Commerce and Art Graduates. Recruitment in Ordnance Factories as “Group A “officers is done through Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Engineering posts are filled through rigorous and competitive Engineering Services Examination (ESE) and technologists are selected. For non technical streams, UPSC conducts Civil Services Examination (CSE). Group of Ordnance Factories have nine training institutes. Group A officers are trained at National Academy of Defence Production, Nagpur. Group B and C officers are trained at the remaining eight institutes.

OCFC is headed by a General Manager (equivalent to Additional Secretary, Government of India).

There are ample job opportunities in OCFC for ITI/ Diploma Holders. There are posts ranging from Boiler Attendant, Chemical Process Worker, Examiner, Fitter (General/ Electric), Machinist, Pharmacists, Durwan, Miller, etc. The permissible age is 18- 32 years for the posts or as specified in the job notification. There are provisions of age concessions for candidates belonging to reserved category.

For Non- ITI candidates, the basis of selection is written test. The test is of objective nature consisting of questions on General Knowledge, English, Mathematics and Aptitude/ Reasoning as per Xth level.

ITI candidates are required to pass the trade test along with the written test.
